It’s Barbecue Season Charlie Brown!

Like Charlie Brown and the PEANUTS gang you’ve probably already took some time to dive into your family barbecue bag of tricks, but like our famous funnel cakes you can never go wrong when you add something new.
This year Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom’s Communications Team chatted with some of our Food and Beverage staff to uncover some new secrets to the perfect barbecue.
Oil, Oil, Oil
You can never go wrong when it comes to the one thing that can really keep your food from sticking. Our team recommends that you lather up your grill’s grates with cooking oil before turning it on.
Water is a no-no
Even if it looks like the 4th of July spectacular and there is smoke billowing from your sausage, do not panic. Use the lid and cut off the oxygen to get control of things.
Let meat sit
It’s best to let it rest. Leaving your meat on a plate for a few minutes after you pull it off the grill will help seal the juices.
Dent burgers in the middle
Yes. Before you cook ‘em up you should use a spoon, fork or whatever you have lying around to make a little dent. This will keep your burgers from getting thick.
Turn down the heat for chicken
Low heat is better for your favorite bird. If you get it right and turn often you’ll get that crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside chicken that you crave.
Turn up the heat for beef and pork
It’s the opposite of your favorite bird! Literally. You don’t want to flip them too much and if you keep it low it will not get you that burger, steak or hot dog that you crave.
Season your meats
Use salt, pepper or any rub honestly before grilling. You’ll want them COVERED! A good rule for grilling is to double what you believe to be necessary.
Use foil or a rack for your vegetables or to make cleaning easy
This will not only help you grill your vegetables evenly but it will prevent them from falling.
Clean your grill
If you don’t invest or use a good brush…. It will eventually catch up with you and impact the flavors you love and enjoy.
CLOSE IT!
It’s always better to trust the process. You don’t want anything to dry out so as tempting as it is to open the lid…. Don’t do it or at least try to cut down on the number of times you do.
