Alfundo the Clown

September 1, 2020

Who’s this clown anyway?

If you spent time at Dorney Park in the 1960s through the early 90s then you need no introduction to Alfundo the clown.

For those scratching their heads on exactly who or what this is… Alfundo was the Dorney Park mascot during that time, and his name is short for “ALlentown has FUN at DOrney.”

For more than 30 years, he greeted Dorney Park guests from a three-dimensional sign that towered over our main entrance, juggling five illuminated balls.

This imaged stretched across the top of the coaster station (better known as Thunderhawk, today), former ride Journey to the Center of the Earth, and the bumper cars. He also made appearances inside the park, and our guests share many wonderful images with and of him still to this day.

Although some believe he couldn’t keep his act together and ultimately retired from the park, we believe this is far from the truth. Alfundo has lived in the hearts and on top of the minds of many. The local community even petitioned for his return at one point, but he, unfortunately, remained silent.

At the start of the pandemic – Alfundo decided to make a resurgence (and might I add looking great). We're guessing - like any celebrity – he just needed some time away. Where he has been, he has yet to say but we expect details to arise as he been frequenting the park since. He came back to help the local community and jumped on the #Goals4LV social media challenge – and hasn’t gone away since.

We have received many guest inquiries to see and meet him, and we finally talked him into doing some appearances.

Old friends stopped by to say hello and new friends stepped right up to meet him on the main midway near the Antique Carousel.

Although Alfundo won’t be making any more appearances this season, we can count on him to be around, and maybe we’ll even find out what he’s been up to all these years.
