Healthy Living at Dorney Park

So we’ve been on a bit of a health kick lately. Maybe it’s because we’re going back to school shortly, but being in shape is something we’ve discussed a lot recently. Working at an amusement might present some challenges to those who wish to get healthier over the summer. It’s more the temptation of those delicious amusement park foods, (funnel cakes, fudge, ice cream, French fries, etc.), that presents the biggest challenge to people who are seeking to get back into shape. So we gave ourselves a challenge: make a post about options for people at the park who are also in a health kick so that they can really utilize their time here at the park. You, along with the both of us, may be surprised at what we found!

The name of our blog is “A Walk in the Park,” but until recently, we hadn’t really gone out of the office for long enough to walk the whole park. So, we did just that. We took an hour of our day to walk through the park, and we found that walking one loop was roughly 2.5 miles of walking! So, if you count all those times you run back and forth between Talon and Steel Force, you’re certainly covering a lot more distance than you think! And don’t forget about the inclines; you know the hill we’re talking about! We’ve walked up and down that way more than a few times to get to Good Time Theater for All Wheel Sports, it can be a workout! So throw on your athletic shorts and sneakers, and get movin’ through the park! There's beautiful scenery and flowers all around!

Healthy food options at an amusement park can be hard to come by, but we did come up with a few ways to stay healthy. For one, drink more water. We offer complimentary water at all of our vending locations for your convenience. Did you know that your body will store less water (water weight), if you drink more water? Your body literally holds on to water if you aren’t drinking enough of it, because it doesn’t know when it’s going to get more! So the more water you drink, the less water you hold. We also have healthy food options like grilled chicken and veggie burgers at Coasters Drive-In, and of course healthy options at our Subway locations. If you’re looking for something sweet, try frozen yogurt, or even a regular sized Rita’s Italian Ice! Cotton candy is also fat free!

You can also prove your athleticism with some of our games! We’ve got various basketball hoops around the park, and even a 3-point Challenge. We have a football toss, and that cool ladder game where you can’t roll over! So get some exercise in, and if you win a choice prize like a giant Minion or Domo, you’ll definitely burn some calories carrying that around too! Another option is to dance along during our live entertainment shows.  See if you can catch the rhythm with the cast!

So whether you’re here to enjoy the deliciously sinful funnel cake or fudge, or if you’d rather split a frozen yogurt with a friend, Dorney Park has something for everyone. Walk a few miles, sweat a little, scream a little, and enjoy your day at Dorney Park. And don’t forget, one cheat day isn’t going to kill your vibe. If a Philly Pretzel Factory pretzel is calling, it’s ok to answer!

This is what I been telling people! Working out has never been so fun! Great cardio from walking, going up and down stairs to get on and when you get off the rides, swimming, and you also burn calories laughing.. Me and my boyfriend try to go at least 3 times a week. Great cardio workout!
